Rules

Last Updated: June 23, 2025

  • Characters and Guilds

We encourage players to choose immersive, lore-friendly names for characters, guilds, and pets. The following are prohibited:

    • Names with political, religious, or controversial connotations.
    • Vulgar, offensive, or sexually explicit names.
    • Names intended to impersonate staff, community members, and public personalities.
    • Names that violate our rules against public conduct (see below).

    Public & Private Communication Conduct

Public communication channels (World, Trade, Say, etc.) may be monitored by Epoch Game Moderators. While private channels (Guild, Whisper, etc.) are not actively monitored, players should remember that most prohibited speech behavior rules apply to these channels as well. Players encountering unwelcome content in private channels are encouraged to use in-game tools such as the ignore and leave features first. Players encountering unwelcome content in public channels are encouraged to use in-game tools such as the ignore first.

    Respect Others

Treat all members of the community with respect. Actions that harm the server’s reputation or disrupt the community, such as by intentionally disrupting organized RP events, will result in moderator action.

    English-Only

Project Epoch is an English-speaking community. Use English to communicate in public channels. The only exception is guild recruitment messages, which may use other languages. Private channels may use any language.

    Prohibited Communication Behavior

The following type of speech and communication behavior is prohibited:

    • Advertising: While discussions about other servers or projects are allowed, blatant ads like “Go play my server!” are not.
    • Hate Speech: Any language targeting race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, religion, or other personal characteristics.
    • Sexual Content: Keep your comments appropriate for a diverse audience, including younger players. Sexual harassment can be reported from public or private channels.
    • Illegal Content: If it breaks the law, it has no place here.
    • Spamming: Posting the same content repeatedly within a short time.
    • Controversial Topics that are not relevant to the channel.
    • Posting Links to phishing sites, cheats, or other prohibited content.
    • Forcing Non-Default Font Colors on Others through editing the client or other means.
    • Doxxing or sharing private information about others without their consent, including the identity of staff characters or Game Moderators.
    • Bypassing Ignore functions to harass others.

    Prohibited Game Actions

The following game behaviors are always prohibited:

    • Account Sharing: You are responsible for all actions taken by your account. Project Epoch is not responsible for losses due to account sharing.
    • Cheating, Exploits, and Third-Party Programs: Use of cheats, hacks, bots, or other methods to gain an unfair advantage will result in an account ban.
    • Bug Exploits: If you discover a bug or exploit, report it immediately via an in-game ticket or our bug report tool. Exploiting bugs for personal gain (e.g. gold, items, experience) will result in penalties, including a potential ban.
    • Using Unauthorized Third-Party Software to automate play or provide unfair game advantages.
    • Using VPNs, especially to avoid moderation actions.
    • Multi-Boxing: Multi-boxing is not permissible for any reason. Characters involved in multi-boxing will receive a warning, and then a ban.
    • Real-World Trading: Buying or selling in-game items, gold, characters, or services for real money or shop items is strictly prohibited. Advertising for or engaging in RMT will result in a permanent ban.
    • Trade Ghosting: Failing to complete your part of a trade while receiving the other player’s goods is cheating, and will result in penalties, including a potential ban.
    • Organizing or participating in GDKP / Gold Bid runs is not allowed. These runs are defined as a dungeon/raid group auctioning off loot drops for gold.
    • Boosting is not allowed. Boosting is defined as carrying low level characters through dungeon content with the intention of farming experience points for them. While there are already measures in place to limit the capabilities of boosting, circumventing these is still against the rules.
    • Win-Trading, AFK in Battlegrounds, Stream Griefing, Soul of Iron Griefing and/or exploiting game mechanics to control game resources or prevent other players from enjoying the game. This includes camping players, quest NPCs, or objectives for extended periods of time, and or setting up circumstances designed to trick Soul of Iron players into dying.

    Moderation and Reports

When necessary, Project Epoch Game Moderators will take action to curtail prohibited player behavior. Depending on the severity of the violation, penalties may include warnings, mutes, temporary suspensions, loss of in-game items or rewards, or permanent bans. Repeat offenders face harsher consequences. Severe violations may result in an IP ban, affecting all accounts using that IP. Players filing reports about rule violations are encouraged to provide proof of violation such as timestamps of when the behavior occurred and where, or by providing proof of violation with screenshots, or videos. Filing violations with false reports will result in penalties.

    Ticket System

Project Epoch provides an in-game GM ticket system to report bugs, issues, and behavioral infractions by filing reports about rule violations. Abuse of this system with frivolous requests and GM harassment will result in penalties may lead to a ban.

    Ban Appeals

Appeals must be submitted via our website and must include the character name, account email, and why you believe the ban was issued in error. Do not file appeals on behalf of other players. Do not spam appeals. Repeat appeals without new evidence will be closed.

    Item Restoration

In general, items cannot be restored unless they were lost due to a game issue or bug. GMs cannot assist with recovering items lost via player error or add-ons that autosell items. GMs will not intervene in loot disputes unless they involve prohibited behavior, such as Trade Ghosting.

    Character Restoration

You may submit a restoration ticket using a different character on the same account for the purpose of restoring a deleted character; however, there is no guarantee that the character can be fully restored, especially the name of the character. Characters that fail Soul of Iron cannot be restored to before they failed the challenge. Unfortunately, we are unable to restore Soul of Iron characters from deaths that occur due to server or game issues.

    Rule Changes

Project Epoch reserves the right to modify our server and community rules without prior notice. Changes will be announced publicly on Discord and our website. GMs may take actions not explicitly listed here in unique situations to prioritize the community’s well-being.
