After many years of development, Project Epoch’s launch is coming soon. We wanted to take this time to give a message to the community, along with updates on some key topics such as name reservations, stress tests, and more.
First, we want to give a big thank you to the community, especially our long term supporters. Some of you have followed us for nearly three years and have watched our server grow from little more than an ambitious idea to the server we are now. Through countless conversations with the team, numerous beta tests, and extensive feedback you’ve helped shape what Project Epoch has become. We also want to give a shoutout to everyone who has contributed in some way or form to the server. While the list is too extensive to individually list, know that without your help our server would never have come this far. No matter the size of your contributions, we thank you for the time you spent improving the server. Thank you.
Next we want to highlight some key dates that you should be aware of. We’ll be going more into detail later in this post about these, but have listed the important dates here:
Finally, we want to remind everyone that characters from betas and stress tests will be wiped before launch. Only your accounts and beta rewards will persist. This means you may still use the same account you’ve been using and do not need to register again.
Part of our preparation for launch includes throwing as many resources at the server as we can to test our hardware. With that in mind we are announcing two stress tests. For these stress tests players will be able to create a limited selection of races for your characters and level for a few hours. We encourage players to take this time to get familiar with the client, set up addons, etc.
The first stress test will only be available to accounts that already exist while the second stress test will be available to the whole community. The purpose of having two tests is to gain more data under a variety of circumstances and to monitor our hardware with different player counts. In addition these tests will give us accurate data so that we can place a queue on launch at the correct player count if needed.
We have updated our How To Play page with current information which will be relevant for launch. This includes launcher, client, and patch downloads. We encourage you to visit the page to familiarize yourself in preparation for our launch.
Registration is currently disabled until July 10, 8pm GMT. At this time new accounts are able to be created. Please note that if you have forgotten your credentials, existing accounts are now able to reset their password. Unfortunately, if you have lost access to the email address used to register your account, we recommend creating a new one as we are unable to assist with account recovery.
We are also providing the ability to reserve two names for your account prior to launch. Name reservation will be available starting on July 22 at 8pm GMT.
Unfortunately the team is unable to assist with disputes regarding ownership of names, so if you desire a name we encourage you to log in as soon as possible. It should also be noted that names of Project Epoch staff members will be unavailable to reserve.
We’re pleased to announce a lot of work has been spent updating our launcher in preparation for launch. Importantly, we are happy to host our own 3.3.5 enUS client which is available for download via torrent here. This client has not been modified at all so feel free to use it on other servers if you wish.
After downloading the client, simply extract it to your computer and point the launcher to the directory you extracted to. It should be noted that we offer three possible servers (configurable via the settings menu) in our launcher to download our custom patches from. If you find your download speed is poor we recommend changing your server.
We’ve also streamlined our deployment process which has resulted in us going from numerous patches to just a small handful. The launcher now detects unrecognized patches and prompts for their removal, which is recommended when upgrading from prior betas. Additionally, the launcher will receive automatic updates to ensure optimal performance and the new features that were outlined previously.
More information regarding our launcher, client, and a general overview of how to play on Project Epoch can be found here.
Our community has grown a lot in the last few weeks, and we’ve decided we need to expand our team. With that in mind, we are opening applications for the following roles:
The foundation of our community, community moderators help answer questions, moderate our Discord server, and assist the team with tasks related to the social aspect of Project Epoch. It should be noted this role is not a game master and does not involve in-game related tasks.
You may apply for this role here.
Working primarily with in-game related issues, our game masters serve as the go-to support for character bugs, rule abuse, and more. It should be noted that game masters will rarely actually go in-game as the Project Epoch team has built a web-based admin panel to properly resolve the majority of cases.
You may apply for this role here.
We hope this post was informative and answered some of the questions you may have regarding our launch. The team is very excited for you to join us on our server, and if you have any questions feel free to ask on our Discord.
