Battlegrounds

Battlegrounds are the core of PvP in a Vanilla world, offering large-scale, objective-based combat between the Horde and Alliance. While Arenas exist in Project Epoch for small-scale competition, Battlegrounds will always be the main focus. Players can expect the strongest rewards and progression to come from engaging in these epic, faction-based wars.

Marks Matter

Whether during the Pre-Season or throughout Season 1 and beyond, Battleground Marks remain a core currency for PvP rewards. Earned exclusively through Battleground participation, these marks are used alongside Honor and Conquest to purchase powerful gear and cosmetics—ensuring that Battlegrounds are always a meaningful part of the PvP experience.

Faction Pride Lives On

While much of Project Epoch embraces cross-faction play, PvP stands as a firm exception. Battlegrounds represent the heart of the Horde vs. Alliance conflict, and as such, this content remains strictly faction-based. In these warzones, your banner matters—cooperation ends where the battleground begins.

Close Games Still Count

Project Epoch features a "Close Game" mechanic in Battlegrounds. If a match ends with a narrow margin—like a 3 to 2 flag score in Warsong Gulch—the losing team will earn increased Marks, Honor, or Conquest. Fighting hard to the end pays off, and players are rewarded for staying competitive rather than giving up early.

Level Through Bloodshed

In Project Epoch, you can reach level 60 entirely through Battlegrounds. Experience is earned not just from honorable kills, but also from completing objectives and playing the game well. Paired with a set of upgradable PvP gear designed for leveling, players can fight their way to the top—one battlefield at a time.

Warsong Gulch

Location: The BarrensLevel Bracket: 10 - 60Size: 10v10

A valley bordering Ashenvale Forest and the Barrens, Warsong Gulch hosts a constant battle between the forces of the Warsong Outriders of the Horde and the Silverwing Sentinels of the Alliance. The Warsong orcs are cutting lumber reaped from Ashenvale, provoking the night elves. The Horde needs this lumber to expand their capital city of Orgrimmar, while the Alliance wish to defend their allies' sacred forests.

Warsong Gulch is a classic game of Capture the Flag, requiring you to grab the flag in the enemy base on the opposite side of the map and return it to your own flag room. You must work with your allies to ensure the enemy flag carrier does not survive the trip to your base, while also keeping your own flag carrier safe. The battle ends when one team successfully captures 3 flags, or after 25 minutes pass.

Gillijim's Isle

Location: South SeasLevel Bracket: 40 - 60Size: 15v15

After rumors emerged that the fabled mind altering Goblin ore Kaja'mite had been found on Gillijim's Isle, the Horde and Alliance swept into action. This battlefield is coveted by the Gnomish members of the Alliance in an effort to study its properties. The Orcs however wish to use this to bribe the typically neutral Goblins. Are the rumors true? Does Kaja'mite even truly exist? These questions must wait as neither side can begin to dig until the island is captured!

Gillijim's Isle is a mixture of Capture the Flag and Domination (also known as "King of the Hill"), with the objective of being the first team to 1500 points. Your team earns points by holding as many of the four bases as you can, which are called Bloodscalp Village, Castaway Tower, Naga Ruins, and Goblin Enclave. Periodically a flag will appear in the middle of the map for both teams to fight over. Taking this flag to one of your currently held bases will earn your team a large boost in points! This battleground was greatly inspired by the Burning Crusade battleground "Eye of the Storm".
